The Birmingham Water Works has issued a Stage Four Extreme Drought Emergency!
“The Extreme Drought Emergency Stage will be implemented when extreme drought conditions have caused significant adverse impacts to the reliability of water resources and the ability of the Birmingham Water Works to adequately supply and meet future demands or usage requirements of its customers, and public health and safety are at risk. The Birmingham Water Works Board will implement surcharges for excessive water use. Birmingham Water Works will request that municipalities within its service area implement and enforce their Drought Management Ordinance, Extreme Emergency Stage. Customers will be required to use stricter water conservation measures in order to mitigate the extreme effects of the drought. The goal of this Extreme Drought Emergency will be to further reduce water use by 5 percent from the rate of use observed in Stage 3.”
